Well Avon descent has been run and won for 2009. But it will be here again for 2010. Held in August each year, the Avon Descent has been running for over 30 years and is a supreme challenge of the Avon and Swan Rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting and spectacular two-day time trial over 133 grueling kilometers. The descent will be held on 7th - 8th August 2010This the world's best white water event is Western Australia's own unique sporting event. This white water race is not bettered by any like event in the world. The event attracts participants from across Australia and overseas. Competitors challenge the river in a variety of craft, in an exciting two day time trial over 134 kilometres from Northam to Perth and is spectacular viewing at the various rapids encountered by the boats. During the 2008 event the river's water level was the highest in decades which made for some exciting racing watched by thousands of spectators. This white water decent offers participants conditions ranging from long stretches of flat water through to white water rapids, sure to test the skills of all who attempt to navigate their contours. The descent is all about excitement and is the complete challenge for all those intrepid people who love to pit themselves against the roughest and most challenging conditions that nature can throw up.

How to get there.
Get onto the Mitchell freeway and turn left onto Reid Highway.
If you are coming from the Kwinana Freeway turn right onto Reid Highway.
Travel along Reid Highway past the Great Northern Highway after which Reid Highway then becomes Roe Highway.
Continue along Roe Highway and turn left at Toodyay Road.
Keep going along Toodyay Road past John Forrest Park and then past the Noble Falls tavern until you get to Toodyah, if you only want to view the finish of day 1 and the start of Day 2
At this point if you want to see the start of the Avon Descent take the Northam - Toodyah Rd until you get to Northam.
Toodyay is located 85km North East of Perth.
Northam is located just over an hour's drive from Perth on the Great Eastern Highway.
There is camping available at Cobblers Pool which costs $20 at the gate on the day.
Cobbler Pool is 20 kilometres or 12.4 miles west of Toodyay.
Campers are requested to utilise existing roads and tracks and not to drive or walk through natural bush land.
Campsites shall be a reasonable distance away from the Avon River.
All rubbish/litter shall be carried and taken away with individuals or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
Toilets/ shall be located discretely and appropriately away from campsites and be fully self contained. All toilets to be emptied by a professional prior to removal from site.

Under no circumstances are dogs or any other pets allowed on campsite premises.
Catering.
There will be caterers on site for next year’s event: One specializing in cafe style coffee and hot drinks with a range of cakes and muffins.
Confectionary and cold drinks will also be available.
The other is an exclusive caterer who provides high quality, tasty and healthy foods prepared gourmet style that will satisfy any appetite. Sports and energy drinks are also available. Opening hours are early Saturday until 8pm and Sunday breakfast.
