Jurien Bay an anglers paradise

Jurien Bay Is a typical sleepy and attractive seaside resort town 275 kilometres, approximately 3 hours north of Perth.

Located not far north of Perth, Jurien Bay is a seaside resort town and is a great place for recreational anglers, holiday makers and professional cray fishing. It is at the southern end of the Bay which stretches over 9 km from Island Point at the south to North Head. The waters of the bay are well sheltered by a number of islands and reefs which lie just off the coast.

Built on low lying sand hills beside the beach, the settlement of Jurien is full of small cottages which have been constructed to supply the needs of weekend anglers.

Today Jurien's continued success depends on cray fishing, holiday makers and anglers. It is a typical, "get away from it all" holiday destination with a lovely white pristine sandy beach and a small shopping centre.

There is a considerable number of retired folks in the town now. It is soon to become the headquarters of a shire which will incorporate Leeman, Cervantes and Greenhead.

The recent construction of the coast road means that the folks who live in these small settlements or visit them can now travel to Jurien Bay to take advantage of the safe all-weather fishing conditions which exist in this area.

Jurien Bay is recognised as one of the best areas on the central coast for catching dhufish, snapper and baldchin groper which is one reason the WA Deep Sea Classic is held here every year.

Jurien is a delightfully, peaceful fishing town, only a two and a half hour drive north of Perth.

It's a beautiful place to spend a week or two, a day or two relaxing in the sunshine - the beaches are beautiful, the water abundant with fish and there are reefs and islands to explore not far off shore.

The Jurien Bay Marine Park is where you will see whales migrating each along the coast.

Visit the mischievous seals, sea lions, dolphins and whales. Join a fishing charter or get up closer to them on a personal cruise.

To see the West Australian bush head to Lesuer National Park, just half an hour drive from the town.

It's worth doing the 18 kilometre scenic drive which has plentiful roadside viewing stops for interesting photo opportunities.

In season, about 900 odd species of native flora make Jurien one of the most inexhaustible wildflower areas in the world.

And just a short drive north is the Sandy Cape Recreational Park, which has an idyllic beachfront camping ground with some of the world's best coastal walks, swimming and beach fishing.

Pinnacles Desert.

Jurien Bay and the Pinnacles

A must-see experience is the remarkable Pinnacles Desert. It's a wild, rugged place unlike anywhere else in this world of ours.

The Pinnacles is in the heart of the Nambung National Park, and consists of thousands of limestone pillars rise out of a stark landscape of white sand, some of which reach three and a half metres in height.

Jurien Bay The Pinnacles

A visit at sunrise or sunset is the best time for the most spectacular views of the Pinnacles.

Visitors to Jurien can see the unbelievable variety of marine life found in the waters off the town's coastline as well as having the opportunity to experience interacting with the seals, you can go swimming, snorkelling, or fishing for a big snapper or two. Exploring the offshore reefs and islands in the area is another invigorating option.

Jurien Bay Marine Park extends south from Green Head to the Southern boundary of Nambung National Park. A small area of this marine park has been reserved for sanctuary zones, however a full range of marine activities such as fishing, swimming and diving are allowed in the majority of the marine park area.

The town of Jurien Bay has a modern boat harbour, which is the focus for the local rock lobster industry and anglers.

A full range of dining and eating experiences are available in Jurien Bay from a la carte dining and cafe style meals to fast take way foods, and counter meals are available in the hotels.

A full range of accommodation is also available and include motels, hotels, caravan parks, self contained cottages and chalets.
