Trigg beach north of Scarborough beach

Trigg beach is just a couple of kilometres north of Scarborough beach, Trigg is a quiet, laid back sort of neighbourhood without any of the bells and whistles, so there is no towering units, hotels or shopping centres.

The beach is treasured by the locals and visitors for its surf, there's also a scenic pathway next to the beach that's a favourite for walkers, joggers, cyclists and roller bladders. I personally also love the local café scene, don't miss the Trigg Island Cafe, located beachside off West Coast Drive.

While it doesn't catch the amount of attention that some of Perth's other beaches do, I reckon Triggs is worth a visit for a peek at the standard "Aussie beach lifestyle".

Trigg Beach is all the rage for surfing, but the surf can be pretty rough for swimmers as rips and currents are frequent. Trigg Island is to be found 15 kilometres north west of Perth city.

The Trigg Surf Life Saving Club monitors the beach's conditions during summer and advise the safest areas for swimming.  Public toilets and changing facilities are on hand. There is also a kiosk and a restaurant and a playground to keep the kids amused.

Plenty of car parking is available along West Coast Highway.

Always swim or surf at places patrolled by surf lifesavers. Swim between the red and yellow flags. They mark the safest area to swim. Always swim under supervision or with a friend, never alone. If you are unsure of surf conditions, make sure you ask a lifesaver or lifeguard.

Nature lovers will love the area. Pied Cormorants and Silver Gulls roost in the limestone outcrops at Trigg Island and you may also see Crested Terns and Fairy Terns. Bottle nosed dolphins are regular visitors offshore. Trigg Island beach is home to one of Perth’s best surf breaks.

On a warm summer’s day, Trigg Island beach swarms with surfers and boogie boarders making the most of the reef break just offshore. Inshore, swimmers enjoy the turquoise water and pure white sand.
