Mandurah a great place to explore and enjoy.

Located just 73km/40 miles south of Perth at the entrance to
the magnificent Peel Inlet. Mandurah is a fairly large centre with a
population of about 45 000.
It is the best weekend getaway close to Perth.
Check this beautiful town out, take your family or a group of friends and explore
the near south west of this our wonderful state.

In recent times the complexion of the township has changed.

A decade ago it was a mixture of retirement town and a
pleasant seaside resort. Today, while it continues to be
a popular seaside resort, it is the southernmost point of
Perth's ever-expanding commuter belt.

The obvious starting point for anyone visiting this beautiful city is the tourist
Bureau at 5 Pinjarra Road, which is literally
only 50 metres/yards from the old Estuary bridge across Peel Inlet.

Summer is now here, the weather is still warm to hot which makes this time of year an ideal time for a great getaway down south to this charming city.
So for a wonderful weekend or romantic getaway try any of the towns shown on the map below.

In the wild flower season the drive down south is magnificent so do get down south soon and check it all out.
Enjoy.

Halls Cottage

Halls Cottage is in Leighton Road, Halls Head
(cross the inlet from the town centre and head north)
and was built in the 1830s, restored in 1975, and is a very good
example of the earliest dwellings in the area.

'This wonderful old cottage is built of local limestone
with a high hipped roof and two verandahs, front and back.
The interior walls are made of pretty rough untrimmed limestone
blocks and rubble held together by lime mortar
and lime wash. The interior features are pit-sawn floor boards and open fireplaces.
The buildings is typical of the period. The Historical Society has a useful
sheet on the cottage.

The original owner, Henry E. Hall, was the first person to
develop a fishing industry in the district. Halls Cottage is now a museum of local history.

Beyond its historical site this lovely town has the usual range of tourist attractions.

Marapana Deer and Wildlife Park
has a mixture of
fallow deer and native animals which I am sure you would love to see and interact with.
Marapana is a lovely spot to spend a few laid back hours in and will surely delight your eyes. Marapana, near Mandurah, the best wildlife park in WA. There are also potteries, boat cruises, crabbing, fishing and lots more besides for a fun time.
Details on all these attractions are available at the:

Mandurah Tourist Office.

As well as all these commercial attractions there are the
usual range of beach and coastal activities - swimming,
surfing and boating.

There are big jewfish about and Mandurah has
some of the best fishing near Perth,
particularly around the offshore reefs.

The town is also known as 'Crab City' as the estuary is full of tasty
blue swimmer crabs.

Environmental problems, relating to the Peel Inlet, have been
cleared up by the Dawesville Cut which is a great fishing spot in itself.

For the best fishing trips try The Blue Lightning for your day on the water.

Fishing in the Blue Lighting is a wonderful experience.
