Margaret River Surf.

This lovely laid back town has now achieved tourism success, based on Wine, surf, and a laid back lifestyle.
It’s population has grown to about 5600 and the local council claims that there are nearly 1.5 million
tourists visiting there every year.
The main street has a certain vitality because it is a very attractive shopping venue, with a large range of
services available attracting a steady and lively custom.
Conscious decisions by the local council has led to low key development being the norm here, so there are no skyscrapers here at all.
The Margaret surf classic 2009.
Make sure you get to Marg's to see the surf classic on Nov 22. This round of the World Championship is always a spectacular event.
This year John Davies will be hoping for back to back wins in this years event.
Also hoping to go back to back is Felicity Palmateer in the open Woman's division.
Recent spring swells will hopefully continue and showcase the surfers skills.

The laid back charm of the South West pretty much remains as it used to be with very friendly, helpful people
who are only too pleased to point you in the right direction when asked.
Margaret River is a center for surf at a competitive and casual level, and is also a center for that surf culture.
Other sports that are part of the lifestyle in Margaret River include Golf, swimming, tennis, squash, bowls,
Australian Rules Football, Hockey, Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, Basketball and Netball.
Wine has become important to the towns image, but has also become a mainstay of it’s economy,
so viticulture and wine processing are critical to the towns economy.
Surfing is also important, bringing a big proportion of the tourists that support the town into the area.
As with any small town catering for about 1.5 million tourists per year,
Margaret River has a thriving
hospitality industry and retail sector.
Some mates you might see on your travels.

Having surfed at here I can attest to the size and the quality of the surf breaks, they are great.
As for the wines, don't know but the beer's wonderful and sois the food.
