Mildura, North West Victoria.

Mildura is the biggest town in North West Victoria and is about 550kms from Melbourne, a 6 hour drive.

Mildura which sits on the southern bank of the Murray river has many things of interest to the traveler.

The town was built in the desert and irrigation has seen it transformed into an oasis in the middle of the red dirt country.

Mildura has many attractions for tourists including The "Mighty Murray River" itself. On the Murray you can catch a romantic trip on an old style paddle steamer.

Hire or bring your own boat and go fishing for Murray cod, Go swimming at Apex Park off the large sand bar or have a picnic or BBQ under the shady gum trees.

Midura's district is a grape growing area which produces some of the best of Australia's grape crops.

The area also grows superior citrus and stone fruits plus a host of other fine foods.

Mildura is where I (Chris Ryan) went to school and grew up so I know a bit about it.There is some amazing places where picnics can be enjoyed by the whole family.

On this site I have some wonderful picnic recipes for you to consider and you can check out those Yummy picnic recipes here Mildura has plenty of great accommodation available, from the cheap to the more up market stuff.

Apex River beach Holiday Park (a must see) is set among the tranquil gum trees on the banks of the Murray River.

The holiday park is situated opposite Apex Beach, borders the state forest, and is just a 4 kilometre drive from the heart of Mildura.

There are loads of wildlife and the quiet setting make it an ideal location for any holiday or picnic.

Accommodation options at the park include luxury two bedroom villas, self-contained one bedroom ensuite cabins, on-site vans and caravan & camp sites for your van or tent.

Facilities include a well-stocked kiosk, campers kitchen, BBQ, laundry, baby's bath and a boat ramp into the river.

In my day it was just a caravan park and swimming hole so it has certainly improved over the years.
