Thanks Ross Unfortunately I have checked out what images I could find of Stylidiums and although the idea is similar, none of them resemble the type of plant I remember. This plant was more of a bush than a grass and the bottom 'lip' of the flower was singular. When the petal retracted, it would curl up tightly on itself. If I were still in WA I'd take a trip there from where I remembered seeing it, as it is soon to be flowering season there, that is if the plant still exists after all this time?!? Thanks again Alice

Your plant could possibly be a Stylidium. Something like a donkey orchid with two petals up and two down. When an insect lands on them a small "trigger"springs across to gather pollen.

Hi Alice thank you for your submission it was a pleasure to read.
If anybody knows the name of the plants or the area that Alice is talking about please make your comments here so we can all know.
And if they are indeed a rare species then we will have to let those in charge know so they can be preserved for future generations to see.
