Tasmania
The Apple Isle
Tassie is an island off the southern coast of Australia and is separated from the mainland by the Bass Strait which is about 200 kilometres wide and indeed is often very rough. Tasmania is sometimes called the Apple Isle by Mainlanders and the locals, and I have a connection with that nickname. My ancestor, Carl Nobelius, started the apple industry at Freshwater on the Tamar River many years ago. It's a beautiful island with much to see and do, a lot of which is eco based. Tasmania boasts a wide range of experiences for the discerning traveler from kayaking, mountain bike riding and hiking or you could try a Gordon River Cruise from Strahan, a Tasmania West Coast Wilderness Railway Tour or a Bruny Island Wilderness Coast Tour from Hobart.
Here's a relly good web site to guide you on your Tasmania Trip - Travel guide to Tasmania, Australia. Find out about this beautiful island off the south-east coast of Australia with advice and booking information on Tasmania holidays, accommodation, tours and car hire. Tasmania is a little cooler than the mainland states so if you are heading to Tassie near winter you can expect some cold weather. The people of Tasmania that I have known have been exceptionally friendly and open to helping others whenever needed. The wilderness areas of the state are exceptionally beautiful and you will enjoy many wonderful scenic panoramas as you travel around the Apple Isle.
