Mandurah Estuary and Cafes
Mandurah is a lovely town to visit, for a day , for longer or even to live.
It has one of the best natural attractions with the estuary and Peel Inlet. Hire a boat and explore or take a cruise on one of the boats and take a trip to see all the canal homes.
Beside the estuary in the centre of Mandurah, is the foreshore. A long park running alongside the water, there are trees for shade, picnic and bbq spots plus a large childrens playground.
throughout the year there are many events held here, such as the Crab Fest, Xmas pageant, Anzac Day and so many more, always ending
in fireworks over the water.
By the foreshore, you have many good restaurants and cafes, The Dome has the best coffee, and position, overlooking the water.
You must try Simmo's ice cream, the best tasting ice cream, with many unusual flavours, all made from natural foods, no preservatives so indulge yourself. further around the foreshore is the cinema and the theatre, which has many big city shows visiting.
Cut through to the Mandurah Marina, another shopping centre with market stalls and the best fish and chips, with a huge deck overlooking all the boats. Watch the sunset over the water!
The estuary goes inland a little and then runs for miles south of Mandurah. This is a great place for boating, canoing and fishing.
At the right time of the year you can find lots of crabs down here.
If you're driving, head south out of Mandurah and take a left turn to the water anywhere after Miami and you'll find a good place for crabbing.
There are several good beaches, Doddi's beach at Halls Head is great, especially for children. All along the coast are fantastic
sandy beaches, you'll never have a problem of overcrowding here, you might even get the beach to yourself. Be careful though, it gets deep very quickly and there are very strong currents. If you have little children, beaches in the estuary are safer, still a current, but nowhere near as strong as those beaches by the sea.
There is a small beach, ideal for little children opposite the foreshore, just around from Kings Carnival. There is a park at the back, with plenty of shade, and a playground for the kids.
There is one large shopping centre on the main road through town as well as several other good size centres. You won't need to travel far to find a shop you need.
If you're staying for more than a day, you must visit Dwellingup National Park. About an hours drive from Mandurah, head east to Pinjarra, go through the main road and east again until you reach the small country town of Dwellingup. the national park is just out of town on the right.
(Ask for precise instructions, its not hard to find). Here you can camp, go for bush walks,
take a canoe down the river which runs all through the park. See the waterfall, climb the boulders or just laze under the pine trees.
In the winter you can light wood fires in designated areas and have a bbq. There is so much to do here and its so large an area. There is a road through, so a normal car can manage it.
You can now get the train from Perth to Mandurah, so its even easier for a day trip.
